What are Japanese Beetles?
Japanese Beetles are a species of the Scarab beetle and, as the name suggests, they are originally native to Japan. They were first discovered in the United States in 1916 - it is theorized they arrived via cargo in preparation for the 1916 World's Fair. No matter how these pests initially arrived, it is indisputable that they have become a nuisance in North America ever since, and they are a terribly destructive pest to roughly 300 species of plants here. Japanese Beetles are essentially non-discriminating, in other words, they have an absolutely bottomless appetite and will chew through practically any plant in their path, so it's important to rid your yard of them quickly. Visually, they appear darker and slightly larger than a standard lady bug. If you spot them, give us a call quickly.
Japanese Beetles are attracted to the scents of various flowers, fruits, and plants, and they're sturdy enough to thrive using a multitude of food sources and breeding grounds, so they can arrive suddenly, without fault, and without a proper invitation! Additionally, the pheromones released by one Japanese Beetle will attract others, thus amplifying the problem quickly.
